Barbados rocked b magnitude 6.7 earthquake











A magnitude-6.7 earthquake struck northeast of Barbados early Tuesday, but there were no reports of damage and casualties, officials said.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the tremor was centred some 172 kilometres north-east of Bathsheba, Barbados. Police Const. Chris Greg told The Associated Press in a phone interview that the earthquake was strong but that so far no damage or casualties have been reported.

USGS said the earthquake struck at a depth of 17 kilometres.

The eastern Caribbean was last struck by a powerful earthquake in 2007, when a magnitude-7.4 quake¬†centred just north-west of Martinique’s coastline severely damaged some buildings on the island.
